Fragments of Elsewhere is a playful kitchen and dining collection, reminiscent of nostalgic holiday and travel memories. My work draws inspiration from Mediterranean tiles, flora, and traditional techniques- influenced by my personal memories from my travels. One memory that really impacted this project, and my mindset, was scuba diving, leading me to focus on ocean conservation throughout my work. A key process for this project is block printing, to create impactful repeat patterns, informed by traditional techniques. By utilising my CAD skills, I have developed my technique of designing digitally and printing physically to keep a tactile quality whilst also playing to my strengths. ‘Fragments of Elsewhere’ signifies the excitement, intrigue and freedom of escaping our usual lives, providing comfort and familiarity and applying it to kitchen textiles to illuminate that feeling through vibrant colour and eccentric illustrative prints. Throughout my degree I have gained valuable experience through live briefs and competitions, and I am looking forward to my journey in the print design industry.
